Maslow's hierarchy of human needs was formed around the theory that people are motivated by five basic categories of needs. The higher-level needs influencing future human behavior much more than the lower-level needs, yet the lower level needs are vitally important in allowing you to ascend to the higher-levels. Well-being is no different, you only reach the higher ranks of well-being and vitality, once you feel safe and supported at the lower levels
Organisations put a lot of time and resources into managing the health and well-being of their employees, yet unfortunately, in many cases the returns on investment will be low.
I often think of well-being as the cherry on top of the cake. In many cases the cherry (or well-being) symbolizes the finishing touch . However, without the cake base (Culture & leadership, the working environment and services), programs and initiatives will lack the core foundations required to support the well-being strategy and deliver long-term results.
